Russian airspace gradually opens borders to UAS![]() |
23-27 May. St. Petersburg. ICAO UAS Study Group hold 7th session on unmanned aircraft systems, gathering 38 experts from 15 countries and 7 international organizations. The group proceeded with developing and formulating requirements, concerning airspace management, licensing, service, impact avoidance and defining standards for control, communication, airworthiness and maintenance. Each host party, as usual, demonstrates the examples of national UAVs and their ability to operate in common airspace along with conventional (manned) aircrafts. It was the first time when in joint flights participated at once two Mi-8 helicopters, motorized glider and two unmanned aircrafts including ZALA 421-04M. As the main device used to regulate air traffic was mobile Autonomous Dependent Supervision Radio Broadcast Type (ADS-B) on VHF-UHF communication feeder guided by GosNIIAS federal state company. Flights took two days, firstly for head officers of Ministry of Transport and Military, then especially for UASS group. They revealed confident off radar guidance, as well as the crafts' ability to see each other on the control panels.UAV operators observed the situation on the ground control stations, receiving real time photo and video data. ADS-B implementation program showed great capacity in such tusks as collision avoidance and supplementary issues of operative transmitting aeronavigation and meteorological data, “pilot - flying control officer” framework. Satisfying demonstration results founds MinTrans to expand further developments and research work on legislative regulation terms.
